Philosophy Take A Deep Breath Cushion Foundation | REVIEW

Helllooooooo! Leslie here with another #foundationfriday! This was one a real struggle to get through – I was off most of the week celebrating with my HusBo, and then started playing Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild on the Switch again – which is all I could think about. But luckily I have had this one in the chamber for a while 😉

This week I want to tell you alllll about the cushion foundation from Philosophy. One ‘mature’ (50+) YouTuber I watch says it is one of her faves, but other than that I haven’t really heard any chatter about it! Cushion foundations are very popular among the k-beauty world, and because k-beauty is making its way into our lil’ American hearts, everything seems to be cushion these days! Let’s get into it!

The Product

Philosophy Take A Deep Breath Cushion Foundation, $40, .44 oz, 8 shades. It is now on the outlet page.

Like most cushion foundations, It comes in a thick plastic compact, with a cover that snaps over the product to keep it from drying out. It comes with a sponge, that I guess could work in a pinch. But it’s not a good size for all over coverage.

Its also more of a mesh type encasement, rather than a cushion. But SEMANTICS.

I picked up the shade 04 – warm vanilla (light beige). A tad warm for me, but I can make it work!

The Claims

… light as air liquid makeup … evens tone and smooths texture with a breathable, weightless finish … instantly locks in hydration … builds beautifully, for sheer to full coverage.

Features SPF 20 !

The first ingredient is water, but does contain quite a few silicones, alcohol (although far down on the list) and potentially irritating natural fragrance ingredients. Ingredient deck also features some items that may contribute to over time skin care (although there are no claims about this other than pollution defense) such as caffeine, coffee seed extract, green tea extract, yeast extract,  – and many more! Apparently this thing is jam packed with antioxidants!

The Application

This foundation is SO easy to apply! Using either a sponge or a brush, you just dip into the mesh and dab where you need it. Coverage is buildable, but never reaches high coverage. It blends out so nicely too! Does not settle, does not look cakey. Definitely a very weightless, breathable finish.

The finish is a very natural glow. You are left with gorgeous, healthy looking skin. Love love LOVE the way this looks after applying!

The Wear

As expected with a BEAUTIFUL, natural finish foundation – this did not last the entire day. (Anybody got a rec for a dewy, natural, non cakey, last all day foundation for an oily girl??)

It didn’t look terrible by any means, but it did start to fade, and I was quite a bit shiny. I would say it got a solid 5 hours before it started to break down. But with the purse friendly packaging, and ease of application I could see this easily being touched up throughout the day. If you’re into that sort of thing.

The Verdict

A REALLY good foundation – but definitely more for the normal to dry skin types. Even with an oil controlling base underneath, it broke down a little and got shiny.

Because it applies to effortlessly, and contains SPF, this is an easy go to for me when I’m just running out the store or doing a little Saturday shopping. But for anything longer than 5 hours, I would need to blot and touch up.

If you have normal to dry skin, with signs of aging, and don’t like to spend a lot of time getting your face together, I really think you would like this!
