I am a HUGE fan of Paula’s Choice skincare. Her Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid single-handedly began my skincare obsession. (And also cleared up my acne and scarring while she was at it. YAS).
So any new release, I jump all over. Here are my thoughts on the semi-new Resist Advanced Smoothing Treatment!
PAULA’S CHOICE RESIST ADVANCED SMOOTHING TREATMENT 10%
I picked up this product the DAY it launched back in December, mainly because the ingredients look eerily similar to the Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum. So make sure to stick around for the end of the post for a quick lil comparison to that product! #dupealert
This AHA serum is targeted towards DRY or very dry skin – I have oily skin. But I do have dehydrated skin, and I when I picked this up it was turning into the cold season. So my skin is a little drier then anyway.
This daily treatment is supposed to dramatically smooth the look of wrinkles & reveal radiance. Visibly younger skin with just one use. Lofty Paula. Real lofty.
This serum can be used up to twice daily and they even say it can go over and around the eyes!
WHAT’S IN IT
A cocktail of sorts, this serum contains a combo of the AHAs Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Malic Acid, Tartaric Acid equaling 10%, and Salicylic Acid (BHA) at an unknown percentage. I LOVE Alpha Hydroxy Acids in a skincare routine and think everyone should find a way to incorporate them in some way. (Spoiler alert – this is a super easy way to do that!)

And the added BHA helps to keep skin and pores clear. Do I need the BHA included? Maybe not. But it aids in a daily resurfacing for firmer, brighter skin.
They have also included in this formulation some powerful peptides, ceramides, and antioxidants. This is probably the first skincare product I have ever put on my face that contains Dill extract. But there’s a first for everything I guess!
ON THE SKIN
This serum is very thin, lightweight, and liquidy. It is “milky”, which is a disgusting way to describe a liquid going on my face. But cloudy doesn’t sound any better.
It isn’t clear. How’s that?
There is almost no scent (PC never adds fragrance) but it does almost smell a little like a wet towel. It is very faint, and I do have an extra sensitive sniffer. But it is enough for me to notice.
It sinks in and disappears into my skin almost immediately. I experience no redness, no irritation – even around my eyes. Which is kind of surprising considering the 10% concentration of acids. I believe the addition of peptides, ceramides, and skin soothing antioxidants help to balance out the harsh effects acids can sometimes have. I think going for the DRY skin version of their daily treatments was a good idea for someone with sensitive skin. Skincare brands tend to be a little nicer to dry skin and use more gentle ingredients. Just because I have oily skin doesn’t mean I’m not sensitive, dammit!!

DRUNK ELEPHANT DUPE??
There are a few different acid-cocktails out there, but by FAR the most talked about one is the Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum. This ALSO contains an AHA/BHA cocktail, however, theirs is a 12% concentrate of AHA and 1% concentrate BHA.
Not without antioxidants, the Drunk Elephant version does contain antioxidants like Rasberry Fruit Extract – perhaps where the name Framboos comes from.
The biggest differences about Paula’s Choice treatment and the Drunk Elephant are the price (DE will set you back $90) and the consistency. Drunk Elephant night serum is a sticky clear gel. For me, it doesn’t sink in nearly as well.
And kind of just sits on top interfering with everything I plan to apply afterward. Also, the Drunk Elephant does irritate my skin a little more. I notice more redness, more drying, more overall uncomfortableness.
As far as results AFTER use … well, honestly I like the way my skin feels better after Paula’s Choice serum. It feels almost velvety And because of the ceramides and peptides my skin is properly replenished and feeling young!
I think this product is not only a ‘dupe’ for the Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum, but performs better on my skin. It is very lightweight and sinks in to almost nothing. There is no irritation – but I see results the next day!
Don’t be scared away by the ‘dry/very dry skin’ claim! I have oily skin and I love the Paula’s Choice RESIST Advanced Smoothing Treatment 10% AHA.
