Estée Lauder Double Wear Light Soft Matte Hydra Makeup | REVIEW

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Makeup is THE holy grail foundation. The cult classic favorite. Top of every “Best in Beauty” list. It is thin. It is full coverage. It is matte. It lasts LITERALLY all day. Even in the hot humid south! But sometimes, I don’t need all that.

I don’t always need FULL coverage. I don’t always need super matte. I don’t always NEED it to look like I completely blocked out my face.

But what I do need is for my makeup to stay on….all day.

So when I saw the Estée Lauder Double Wear Light Soft Matte Hydra Makeup – they had my FULL attention!!

This foundation came to Ulta around the end of the summer of 2018 and I gave it a first impression and a full day’s wear test on my Youtube channel. Check that out here or watch down below if you’d like to see it in action!

It is available on in 21 shades – 1 oz for $42.

This foundation is very light coverage – almost sheer – and not very buildable. It provides a soft matte finish without drying the skin or settling into any pores or fine lines. The finish stays pretty matte all day and does not contribute to any oil production (at least on my skin) as the day goes on. So basically it wears like a matte tinted moisturizer. HOWEVER…

This “foundation” provides no skin benefits. It has no SPF and no other skin care ingredients other than hyaluronic acid – which honestly seems to be tossed into every formula these days. This “foundation” does not blur pores (as it claims) and is not transfer resistant (as it claims). It is not light to medium buildable coverage, as it claims, either.

Ultimately – this did perform and last throughout the day. The sheer to light coverage I started with at the beginning of the day was still there at the end of the day. There was no settling into lines and pores (probably due to lightweight-ness), and my oil was well controlled.

HOWEVER… (there’s that however again)

There are other foundations in my ‘arsenal’ with the same (or better) finish, coverage, and lasting power that are either A) CHEAPER or B) contain some skin benefits like SPF or anti-aging properties.

Overall I think this is a complete waste of money unless you are just a 100% brand loyal human and need this type of product from specifically Estee Lauder. If that’s the case, then yes. This is your guy. If not – get one of these instead:

Similar finish, coverage, length of wear but CHEAPER, drugstore alternatives:

Clean Matte BB Cream
Revlon ColorStay Full Cover Foundation

Similar finish, better coverage, longer staying power, skincare ingredients, SPF:

IT Cosmetics
CC+ Cream Oil-Free Matte

For essentially the same coverage but skincare benefits: this moisturizer (only comes in one tint):

Paula’s Choice RESIST Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30
